- Advocate for design-for-environment initiatives and support legislation aimed at reducing toxic substances in electronic products.
Electronic Waste
Definition of “Hazardous Electronic Waste” (e-waste):
“Hazardous electronic waste” refers to electronic equipment, components, and materials intended for recycling or disposal (but not for direct reuse) that contain, consist of, or are derived from any of the following:
- Circuit boards containing cadmium, lead, or beryllium;
- Cathode ray tubes (CRTs);
- Processed or unprocessed CRT glass;
- Batteries containing lead, mercury, cadmium, or are flammable.
Exclusions from the Definition of Hazardous Electronic Waste:
The term “hazardous electronic waste” does not include:
- New equipment intended for use or sale (rather than recycling or disposal); or
- Fully functional equipment and components that are tested, certified, and labeled as operational, properly packaged to protect their reusability, and intended for donation, reuse, or resale rather than disposal or recycling.
